Hi everyone 🙂
Hope you are all well and that you enjoyed my last review.
The book I have recently read is a little different from what I normally read, but when Publishing Push contacted me and I read the synopsis it intrigued me. Sara Pascoe the author then very kindly sent me a copy.
“Ratchet the Reluctant Witch” by Sara Pascoe follows 14 year old Rachel also known as Ratchet. She is in foster care and even though she is well looked after, she feels there is more to life and decides to runaway. On her adventures she comes across a number of wonderful and colourful characters. What Ratchet also discovers is that she is a Witch and has powers. So join Ratchet on her adventures with the help of her fury friend Oscar the cat.
I really enjoyed reading this book and it grabbed my attention straight away, even though it isn’t normally the genre that I read.
It is a YA novel (young adult) but I think adults will enjoy it as well.
It was full of adventure, drama, fantasy, history, friendship, self discovery, humour and overall a really fun and enjoyable read.
One of my favourite parts of the book was how it went back in time, using one of Ratchet’s powers of time travel. In this case it went back to the times of the Witch Trials in England, which I found really interesting and learnt a lot about that time.
The characters are all very believable and play a big part within the story whether that be a big or small part.
Ratchet is the main character, at first she seems your typical teenager and can be quite highly strung and grumpy but as the story goes on and she starts to discover and learn about herself more you see a much softer and caring side to her which I really liked.
My favourite character however is Oscar the cat. I found him really funny and loved his sarcasm. Also I loved how his and Ratchet’s relationship grew and blossomed as the story went on.
The book really left me on the edge of my seat and was a real page turner. I found I got really into the story, before I knew it I had finished it and in my eyes that means it was a great book. 🙂
I would like to congratulate and thank Sara Pascoe for creating such a wonderful and well written book and introducing me to such fun, loving and unforgettable characters.
As a whole it was a really good and clever story and I highly recommend that you read this book and I can not wait to read more of Sara’s work and hopefully be joining Ratchet and her friends on more journeys.
I hope you have enjoyed this review and that it encourages you to read the book.
Until next time.
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
